I have been gladly
informed about the Golden jubilee of Nam Vazhvu (1975- 2025), the Tamil
Catholic Weekly magazine published by the Tamil Nadu Bishops’ Council (TNBC) -
Print Media Ministries, that has been conveying religious, socio-political, and
cultural insights from a Catholic perspective, and making it a resource
particularly for Tamil speaking Catholics in India and abroad.
From its very
inception in 1975, Nam Vazhvu has offered clarity and guidance to people
on Church related issues. In this regard, Pope Francis noted that “the Church
needs to be concerned for, and present in, the world of communication, in order
to dialogue with people today and to help them encounter Christ. She needs to
be a Church at the side of others, capable of accompanying everyone along the
way. The revolution taking place in communications media and in information
technologies represents a great and thrilling challenge; may we respond to that
challenge with fresh energy and imagination as we seek to share with others the
beauty of God” (48th World Communications Day, 24 Jan 2014).
The Nam Vazhvu offers
its readers various articles on Catholic doctrine and spirituality. It
discusses a number of current issues in theology, science and technological
advances, and attempts to provide answers based on the teachings of the Church.
I express my
gratitude to His Lordship Rt. Rev. Lourdu Anandam, Bishop of Sivagangai, the
Chairman of Nam Vazhvu Publication Society, and to the team of Nam
Vazhvu, particularly, Rev. Fr. S. Rajasekaran, the Director of the TNBC
Print Media Ministries and Editor-in-Chief of Nam Vazhvu, for their
commitment to the values of the Gospel and their zealous efforts to transmit
the faith.
I am confident that the Nam Vazhvu Catholic
Tamil Weekly will continue to be a source of illumination and spiritual
guidance to its readers in the years to come.
